SCHOOL

Nursery & Day Care School

Our fully owned and managed Nursery & Day Care opened on Monday 26th February 2024 starting with KG1 (Kindergarten 1) for 4-5 year olds from Bwejuu and other nearby villages. Most of these children would otherwise not get any pre-school education.

The school provides free quality education, helping our children to develop literacy & numeracy skills, social skills and physical well being through sport.

The school is open from 07:30-12:30 and will provide the children with hot porridge for break.

Classrooms

The school block has 3 large (56 sqm) classrooms which have been specifically designed to provide a bright, airy and colourful teaching environment with visual learning aids.

The classrooms provide an ideal learning environment to foster motivation, creativity, productivity, confidence and happiness in our children. The paintings have all been done by a local Zanzibari artist to ensure the children’s imagination is sparked and provides a place where the children can learn and grow to their full potential.

Playground

We have a large playground with football pitch and swings for the children to enjoy before registration, at break time and as part of sports lessons.

Playgrounds are a vital safe space where children can be themselves and have fun whilst also providing many often ignored benefits.

The opportunity to play and participate in these activities not only improves physical well being, but helps improve the children’s cognitive ability, social skills, communication skills and general confidence.

Volunteers at the Nursery school will help the teachers to care for the children and support them in their daily tasks. In Zanzibar the children in Kindergarten learn how to read, write and do simple mathematics.

You will assist the teachers in the classroom, help define and implement fun leisure activities, games and sports. You will also support the teachers in their administrative tasks, help with everyday tasks such as cleaning and distributing porridge at break as well as preparing homework and marking tests.
